Company is hosting a "Biggest Loser" style competition as a means of going with the theme of health and fitness. Being the IT department, it is full of people who probably spend more time seated than standing and more time thinking about exercising than actually exercising. Each participant has to pay $20 to enter. Then at the weekly weigh-ins, each pound over the previous week's weight results in a penalty of $1. Missing a weigh-in results in a $5 penalty. Winner at the end takes all with the winner determined by the person with the most % weight loss.
I could stand to lose about 30 more lbs which is about 12% of my total weight. This is what troubles me, assuming I get close to it and only lose 20 lb (8%). Would that be enough to win? Some of these people around the office look like a 30% loss wouldn't be an unhealthy weight loss for them. Should I resort to less ethical measures like putting giant vats of extra rich ice cream out in the kitchen?

Funny how they make the participants foot the cash pot; is the department going to add anything to the prize?
Just go to the weigh in with sand bags in your pockets and a 5 gallons of water in your system. From watching MMA, you can easily drop 8-10 lb in water weight on the day of weigh ins.
Nothing added to the prize that I know of. Perhaps it's the idea that the weight loss is the prize itself and that "everyone wins" at the end..Except out 20 bucks.
